The Holy Spirit

One of my favorite interests in faith is the subject of the Holy Spirit. Today many actions are attributed to the Holy Spirit, while what's happening is not biblical. It's forgotten that God is HOLY and likes order! It's forgotten that the Holy Spirit glorifies Jesus Christ! I would like to start this article with a quote from one of my favorite writers:

The Holy Spirit reveals Christ; teaches us to know Him and enjoy Him; means that we nurish ourselves with Christ; He testified of Christ; He takes the things of Christ to reveal to us. The Holy Spirit is the power of community separators, the seal, the witness, the earnest, the unction, the comforter. In short, his blessed work is a child of God is indispensable. Without Him we can see or hear nothing, know nothing, feel, experience, enjoy and display of Christ. [Notes from Exodus - C.H. Mackintosh - page 87]

Several points about the Holy Spirit

  • The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Godhead and the same Spirit which judges and prophets could do their ministry in the O.T. The Lord Jesus was full of the Spirit and this has raised Him from the dead.

  • A Christian is one who has become a child of God by faith. That faith is not of ourselves but of God. The Spirit has this person convinced of sin, righteousness and judgment to come.

  • A Christian has the Holy Spirit given as a seal until the day of redemption. Therefore, a child of God can never be lost!

  • Through this Spirit, a born again child of God, is able to bear fruit.                       Galatians 5:22: The fruit of the Spirit, however: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance. If we take the figure of Jesus, others see wearing these fruit through us.  Read John 15: 1-5: The true vine and the branches.

  • The working of the Holy Spirit can be decreased by sins in life. However: The Spirit will never leave a child of God. A difference should be made between the dispensation of the O.T. and the N.T. What's in the song "Create in me a clean heart" is therefore folly! God will NEVER leave his child by his Holy Spirit!

  • Today, there are many people who have the guts to call themselves Christians while in sin life. Romans 6: What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? Certainly not! How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?

Strugles in my life

When I look into my own life, I try to take as much as possible away from sin. Well, I struggle with discipline in my life and know my Father in heaven. Once I my time more and more devoted to the things of God, I notice that the Holy Spirit is active again in my life. All the time he was there, but I took no more spiritual food to me. Thus, I noticed His presence anymore.

I think the clearest sign of a Christian is the experiences of conflict in life. Struggle to do good because His child knows that the wages of sin is death. In other words there rests no more blessing on your life, it goes downhill. Fight because God is a holy God and can not have a relation with a child which easily handles with sin and live in it. No, I'm not a saint but I do have fear of God! My biggest struggle I experience in my thought life. Especially when I after a barren period to feed me again beginning with God things are my thoughts bombarded with impure thoughts while I had little trouble there in the barren period... But the Holy Spirit will help me there becoming better, able to control and fight the good fight.

Renovated in your mind (Ephesians 4:23)

To close this article I will ask you two questions:

  • Are you born again by the Spirit of God?
  • What do you know, what is revealed to you, about Jesus Christ who is GOD?
